A few months ago, we tested ROG’s STRIX XG27ACS 27-inch 180Hz gaming monitor. This time we’re looking at another 27-inch but with big upgrades. We’re talking about a 1440p glossy WOLED panel, 240Hz refresh rate, and cooler design with RGB, to name a few. Let’s take a look at the ROG STRIX OLED XG27AQDMG gaming monitor.
The ROG STRIX OLED XG27AQDMG consists of three parts: the monitor, the mount, and the base. I’m mentioning this because it provides the monitor viewing flexibility, allowing you to tilt, swivel, and pivot the monitor. You can also adjust the monitor’s height based on your comfort level. The package also comes with VESA wall mounting if you prefer that kind of setup.
The monitor itself is one of the sleekest we’ve seen as it seems to feature a very slim chassis that ROG calls the SuperSlim Frameless Design. You may say that is not possible as there should be a space to house the components. You’re right, and there is. ROG just placed it towards the middle at the back. It’s well hidden that you’ll only notice it when you fully look at it from the side.
Even when viewed from the back, the ROG STRIX OLED XG27AQDMG still looks good due to its cyberpunk-inspired aesthetic and RGB ROG logo. This chunky part right there houses the components, including a custom passive heatsink and cooling vents to reduce the risk of burn-in. Also found here are the ports, including the DisplayPort 1.4 DSC, two HDMI 2.0, two USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-A, and an earphone jack.
Taking a look at the display, the ROG STRIX OLED XG27AQDMG is the first monitor on the market that uses a WOLED panel with a glossy coating. Compared to other OLED screens with anti-glare matte and semi-glossy coatings, glossy WOLED panels are brighter and offer vibrant colors and inky blacks even in brightly lit spaces. However, take note that these different coatings have their pros and cons so pick the one that suits your preference.
Sharpness and visual smoothness shouldn’t be a problem thanks to the 2560 x 1440 resolution and 240Hz refresh rate. It also has 135% sRGB, 99% DCI-P3, HDR10 support, OLED Anti-flicker technology to reduce flicker during refresh rate fluctuations, 0.03 ms gray-to-gray (GTG) response time for low-latency gameplay, Uniform Brightness setting for consistent brightness, NVIDIA G-SYNC and AMD FreeSync Premium technology, and ASUS OLED Care with pixel cleaning reminders.
If you want to take advantage of more features to enhance your gameplay or productivity, just navigate through the OSD and activate features like Dynamic Shadow Boost, ROG Gaming AI technology-enhanced Dynamic Crosshair, and ASUS GameVisual (choose from seven presets), to name a few.
Given our time with it, we can say we enjoyed using the ROG STRIX OLED XG27AQDM. We already clocked hours on Cyberpunk 2077 on it and recently started playing Zenless Zone Zero. We also used it for work and photo editing, and so far the experience is just fantastic, whether in bright or dim conditions. And given that experience, we can say that it’s a great monitor for work, play, and everything in between.
