The Razer Blade 14, equipped with AMD’s Ryzen 9 7940HS processor and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 graphics, was released in mid-2023. Although almost a year older, it remains one of Razer’s most powerful gaming laptops. The company says it’s a perfect machine for gamers and creators who want performance in a compact and highly mobile package. And I think they’re right.
One of the things we liked about the Blade 14 is its form and size. It has a sleek CNC cut anodized aluminum body in matte black with a minimalist design. The lid has the glowing Razer logo in the middle and flat sides that give off MacBook Pro vibes. It measures 0.71 inches thick and weighs 1.84 kg, it’s a bit chunky and hefty if you compare it to a standard work laptop, but for a gaming laptop, that’s pretty compact.
Open the lid and you will be greeted by the 14-inch 16:10 QHD+ 240Hz Anti-Glare IPS display. It’s smaller than the 15.6-inch of most gaming laptops, but the narrow bezels make it more immersive. It’s bright and accurate. Razer was also able to fit a webcam up top with a manual shutter for added assurance of privacy.
The RGB backlit keyboard, a large and smooth glass touchpad, and front-firing speakers under the flush laser-milled grills on the left and right-hand sides are below the display. The keyboard is a joy to use. The keys are quiet with a smooth yet firm tactility, and they’re so well-spaced that we didn’t have to adjust our typing coming from a mechanical keyboard.
For the ports on the left, we have the USB 4 Type-C, USB 3.2 G2 Type-A, 3.5mm combo audio, and its proprietary port for its charger.
We have a USB 4 Type-C, USB 3.2 G2 Type-A, HDMI 2.1, and a Kensington lock on the right. You can also charge the Razer Blade 14 via USB-C if you have a high-power USB-C charger, but if you’re gaming, you’ll need its 230W charging brick to ensure smooth gaming. It is equipped with a 68.1 Wh battery that can provide up to 10 hours of life.
Speaking of gaming, the Razer Blade 14 model that we have is equipped with the AMD Ryzen 9 7940HS Processor, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Laptop GPU (140 W TGP), and 16GB DDR5-5600 MHz RAM. Pretty good specs for a gaming laptop, and was able to run our games in 1920 x 1080p and 2560 x 1400p resolution above 60 FPS. Heat is not an issue as the palm rest and WASD areas remain at comfortable temperatures. Most of the heat is concentrated in the F key rows with surface temps reaching 50C.
Based on our experience, the Razer Blade 14 is a great laptop if you’re looking for that one machine you can use for work and play. The design is stealthy that you can bring it to the office or cafe, and it wouldn’t attract much attention. But anyone who notices that glowing Razer logo at the back knows it can game. Razer is right. It’s a laptop for creators and gamers in a compact package.
