CASIO G-SHOCK GA-100MF-1A Multi-Fluorescent Accent Series

If you’ve been to any buzzing shopping hubs in any city at night, then fluorescent lights and signs should be a common sight. Bright and vivid colors against the dark sky and gray concrete bring life to an otherwise boring metropolis. Maybe that’s what G-SHOCK aimed for when it released its Multi-Fluorescent Accent Series.

If you’re familiar with G-SHOCK watches, you’ll know they come in different colors. Black may be a prominent option, but a person who wants to stand out might opt for a different color. So, what G-SHOCK did for the Multi-Fluorescent Accent Series is they went for matte black for its bezel and band, then carefully placed vivid colors of blue, pink, and yellow highlights on the hands, hour markers, and dial marks. The result is new watches that exude robustness and stealthiness, but once you look at the dials, they’re also playful and eye-catching.

Speaking of the models, the lineup consists of five watches: the GA-100, GA-110, or GA-700 with the large case; the GA-B2100 with octagonal bezel plus Bluetooth and solar charging; and the GX-56 digital watch with a large case. What we have here is the GA-110. All these watches can tell the time in analog and digital, except for the GX-56, which is all digital.

It sports a resin case and band with a matte finish. It’s chunky but light at 72g. It uses mineral glass, is shock—and magnetic-resistant is water-resistant up to 200m, and can last up to 2 years on a CR1220 battery. In other words, it’s a sturdy watch.

It features a pretty busy dial with three subdials and two screens to display more information, all placed in a dial with a grid pattern. It’s like looking into an aircraft’s instrument panel but easy to understand. We also have four physical buttons to navigate the features.

If you’re looking for some lume, it doesn’t have much and only has tiny bits on the hour and minute hands. But if you really need to illuminate the watch, press the button on the upper right to activate the amber light at the 6th-hour marker. As for the rest of the features, it has world time up to 29 time zones, a stopwatch, a countdown timer, 5 daily alarms, and a full auto-calendar up to the year 2099.

Ultimately, I like how stealthy the G-SHOCK GA-100MF-1A is. It’s not flashy and looks like a timepiece that can take a beating, but at the same time, I enjoy the burst of color every time I look at it for the time. It just shows that matte black and fluorescent colors can come together for an exciting series that can appeal to a wide range of users.
