BABY-G recently celebrated its 30th anniversary and with that occasion, it released its latest collection, the BABY-G+PLUS BGD-10K series. It’s not your typical compact digital watch, though, as it allows you to remove the watch from the bezel and band and place it inside a silicone holder, reminiscent of the Tamagotchi.
The BGD-10K series comes in four vibrant colors, which BABY-G says is inspired by the trendy Y2K fashion. They’re very youthful and seem aimed toward young teens, but any adult who prefers a light compact daily watch would still welcome its appeal.
The watch sports a shock-resistant construction with 100-meter water resistance. On the other hand, the band and case are made of resin. For its features, it supports 29 time zones, a stopwatch, alarms, timer, calendar up to year 2099, and an LED backlight with 2 seconds of illumination. The LCD on the upper right rotates at 30-second intervals through five retro-style pixel-art animations featuring a cast of characters, including a dog and a cat.
What makes this watch interesting and unique compared to other watches, is that you can remove the watch from the bezel and band without the need for tools and then place it inside a special holder with a strap. If you’re familiar with the Tamagotchi of the late 90s and early 2000s, it’s going to have that appeal. The rear has a transparent acrylic cover so you can see the BABY-G logo.
From here, you can hang it from your bag, waist, or anywhere you want to show it off. If you want to personalize it, you can cover the whole thing with stickers, or swap the straps or holder with a different color from other models.
In the world of smartwatches, the BABY-G+PLUS BGD-10K series shows that digital watches can be exciting, especially to younger audiences. Yes, it’s a simple watch but it’s fun to wear and use.
