ASUS Zenbook 14 UM3406 w/ AMD Ryzen AI 7 350

Date

The ASUS Zenbook 14 UM3406 is one of the company’s newest ultraportables with an OLED display and powered by the AMD Ryzen AI 7 350 processor. It’s built to be your thin-and-light workhorse, especially for AI computing tasks, and has enough juice to last the whole day.

The Zenbook is one of those laptops that lets you appreciate its aesthetics before anything else. At first glance, you can immediately admire the sleek body. The criss-cross design on the back is subtle and mostly visible depending on how the light hits it. The seamless edges give it an industrial, minimalist appeal. And with the Jade Black color, it might feel more at home in an office setting. In other words, the Zenbook 14 looks serious yet elegant.

Despite its all-metal construction, it’s lightweight at 1.2 kg and thin at 1.49 cm. I like how durable and cool it feels to the touch. What I don’t like, though, is how it easily attracts fingerprints and smudges, which are evident on the lid and palm areas.

For a thin machine, the Zenbook 14 is generous with ports. It has a USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C, a USB 4 Type-C, an audio combo jack, HDMI 2.1, and a USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A. ASUS says the two USB-C ports support USB-C Power Delivery with up to 40 Gbps data-transfer speeds. And with HDMI 2.1, it can support a maximum of four displays.

Open the lid, and you’ll see the 14-inch WUXGA (1920 x 1200) OLED glossy screen with a 60Hz refresh rate, 400 nits brightness, 600 nits HDR peak brightness, and 100% DCI-P3 color gamut. There’s no touchscreen here, though. Still, it’s crisp, vibrant, and bright enough to keep you productive, whether you’re at home or in an office with a big, bright window.

Above the screen is an FHD camera with IR functionality to support Windows Hello and a built-in physical privacy shutter. Below the screen, you’ll find a backlit chiclet keyboard with 1.4mm key travel and a dedicated Copilot key, alongside a large, smooth precision touchpad that repels fingerprints well.

I enjoyed typing on the Zenbook 14. The keys are amply sized, firm, and offer satisfying travel. They’re quiet, too—you’ll only hear subdued taps. I can work on this in bed at night without disturbing my wife.

For the speakers, ASUS claims they feature super-linear speakers, a Smart Amplifier, and ASUS Audio Booster with support for Dolby Atmos. Big words, but I don’t hear anything impressive when listening to music videos on YouTube. They lack bass and could use a boost, as they’re just loud enough for personal listening. The speakers are also located beneath the laptop on the sides, so they can get muffled if you place it on your lap.

Powering the Zenbook 14 is the AMD Ryzen AI 7 350 processor, AMD Radeon 860M graphics, AMD XDNA NPU up to 50 TOPS, 16GB LPDDR5X, and a 512GB M.2 NVMe PCIe 4.0 SSD. This combination delivers strong performance across a range of tasks, from everyday productivity to creative workloads. It boots fast and multitasks well. If you’re working on spreadsheets, editing photos, or using applications like Adobe, this laptop handles them just fine. Plus, AI-assisted creative work gets a boost from the built-in NPU. You can probably do some light gaming, but don’t expect high frame rates. After all, this is a work laptop.

For the battery, it has a 75Wh capacity, which is huge for its class. This means you can confidently use it for a whole day of heavy use, with probably a bit more left before you retire for the night. The Zenbook 14 also features ASUS Battery Health Management, which provides customizable options to help prolong battery life.

The ASUS Zenbook 14 UM3406 stands out as a highly practical choice for professionals and students who need a reliable, on-the-go device. Its sleek, lightweight design makes it effortless to carry, and the vibrant OLED display is handy for both productivity and entertainment. With a comfortable keyboard, responsive touchpad, huge battery, and good hardware configuration, it can handle AI-assisted tasks effectively.

Despite minor drawbacks, the Zenbook 14 still delivers value that balances portability with everyday usability.
