The ASUS Vivobook line of laptops is usually reserved for budget-conscious consumers looking for an all-around portable laptop for on-the-go productivity. Design-wise, I initially saw them as less premium and chunkier variants of the high-end ZenBook—until I saw the new ASUS Vivobook S 14 (S5406SA).

The Vivobook S 14 (S5406SA) is the company’s latest ultraportable AI laptop, boasting a clean, minimalist design. It comes in Neutral Black with a subtle reflective label at the back. There’s also a Mist Blue variant, but unfortunately, it’s not available locally.

The tough metal body is also sleek, measuring 1.39 cm thin and weighing 1.3 kg, while the clean-cut edges and unibody tapered design give it a simple yet sophisticated look and feel.

Opening the lid reveals a 14-inch WUXGA (1920 x 1200) OLED display, which ASUS calls the ASUS Lumina OLED screen. ASUS’ OLED screens are among the best we’ve experienced, offering punchy yet accurate colors and excellent contrast. The resolution is also well-suited for its size. As a bonus, the screen tilts up to 180 degrees, ensuring an optimal viewing experience from any angle.

Above the display sits the webcam with IR support for Windows Hello, allowing for quick and secure facial login. It also includes a physical webcam shield for instant privacy when needed.

Below, you’ll find a large touchpad and an ergonomically designed keyboard with single-zone RGB Dynamic Lighting. The keys offer a satisfying typing experience with just the right amount of travel. The keyboard backlight keeps the keys legible in low light, though it isn’t as bright as the ones found on ASUS’ ROG laptops.

On the right, the laptop features two USB 3.2 Type-A Gen 1 ports, while the left side houses an HDMI 2.1 TMDS port, two Thunderbolt 4 USB-C ports, a microSD card reader, and an audio combo jack. It’s always great to see a variety of ports, especially on a laptop this thin.

Suppose you’re planning to watch your favorite TV series on the ASUS Vivobook S 14 (S5406SA). In that case, you’ll be glad to know that it comes with Harman/Kardon speakers powered by Smart Amplifier, ASUS Audio Booster, and Dolby Atmos support.

Powering the ASUS Vivobook S 14 (S5406SA) is an Intel Core Ultra 7 256V processor, Intel Arc Graphics, Intel AI Boost NPU (up to 47 TOPS), 16GB LPDDR5X RAM, and a 1TB PCIe 4.0 SSD. Keeping everything cool is ASUS IceCool thermal technology, enabling up to 35W CPU performance.

With this configuration, the ASUS Vivobook S 14 (S5406SA) can handle office work, web browsing, creative tasks (photo and video editing, graphic design), coding, and AI-assisted workflows. Thanks to the dedicated NPU, you can take advantage of StoryCube (an AI-powered multimedia organizer), ASUS AI Noise Cancellation, and ASUS AiSense to enhance your virtual meetings. If you use local AI processing applications, this laptop can boost performance. It even features a dedicated button for Microsoft Copilot, making AI-driven tasks more accessible.

The ASUS Vivobook S 14 (S5406SA) also comes with a 75Wh battery, capable of lasting up to 27 hours, a major plus. This means we don’t have to carry a bulky charger (which isn’t that bulky, by the way) since we know it can last more than a whole day of productivity. But in case you need to charge, it supports USB-C Power Delivery (PD) chargers within a voltage range of 5-20V.

Priced at PHP 82,995, the ASUS Vivobook S 14 (S5406SA) embodies everything we need in an ultraportable laptop: a sleek yet sophisticated design, a stunning and immersive display, a comfortable keyboard with a spacious trackpad, powerful performance, and long-lasting battery life. It’s a laptop we can effortlessly carry around and pull out whenever the opportunity to be productive arises.
