HUAWEI Watch GT 5 (46mm)

Date

Huawei has released new smartwatches under the GT 5 series. It comes in two variants, the GT 5 and GT 5 Pro, with smaller sizes available for women. What we have here is the 46mm Huawei Watch GT 5 in Black, which features improvements over last year’s Watch GT 4. Let’s find out what’s new and whether it’s worth the upgrade.

If you find the Huawei Watch GT 5 familiar, you’re not alone. That’s because it closely resembles the Watch GT 4. The sharp-edged design is still present, giving it a sculpted and geometric feel. While the black model appears sporty and stealthy, the blue model looks more elegant, so you might prefer that if you’re going for a classier look.

The display remains the same, featuring a 1.43-inch AMOLED screen at 326ppi. It’s bright, has vivid colors, and offers wide viewing angles. The watch still uses a stainless steel case, but the fluted crown has been improved, with more noticeable ridges that provide better grip. On the lower right-hand side, you’ll find the multi-function button.

Underneath the watch are the sensors, microphone, and speaker. It continues to use a fluoroelastomer strap, which feels smooth and soft on the wrist. However, it now features a different quick-release mechanism. Instead of pulling a tab, you press a button to retract the spring bar, making it more convenient.

Compared to the Watch GT 4, the Watch GT 5 has improved water and dust protection with an IP69K rating, meaning it’s completely dustproof and can withstand high-pressure washing. This is in addition to the 5ATM-rated water resistance. Furthermore, Huawei says the watch features ultra-hard coatings on the body and screen, along with a uniform nano-film waterproof finish, providing double the scratch resistance and enhanced water and corrosion resistance.

When it comes to health and fitness monitoring, Huawei’s wearables are among the most comprehensive, and the Watch GT 5 is no exception. It includes the HUAWEI Sunflower Positioning System, which uses the smartwatch’s onboard GPS (something the Watch GT 4 lacks) along with a proprietary algorithm to track your location during outdoor workouts. There’s also running form analysis and over 100 workout modes, including swimming, basketball, and padel tennis.

The Watch GT 5 also monitors your mental health with the Emotional Wellbeing app, allowing you to check your emotional state and stress levels. It’s attentive to women’s health as well, providing estimates for period, ovulation, and fertile times. Additionally, it monitors your sleep quality, heart rate, and blood oxygen levels. Huawei has enhanced this further with Pulse Wave Arrhythmia Analysis, which uses the PPG sensor to alert you of potential atrial fibrillation (A-fib) and premature beat risks. The only thing missing is an ECG feature, which is reserved for Huawei’s more expensive models.

In terms of battery life, the Huawei Watch GT 5 can last up to 14 days, 9 days with regular use, or 5 days with the Always-On Display (AOD) enabled—slightly better than the GT 4. For charging, it still uses the same magnetic puck.

The Huawei Watch GT 5 is a great option, especially if you’re buying your first smartwatch. It’s better than its predecessor in terms of water resistance and connectivity, plus it comes in a more attractive blue model. However, if you’re upgrading from the GT 4, you might want to skip this one or opt for the Pro model for additional features.

The Huawei Watch GT 5 is priced at PHP 13,990. See the listing here: https://s.shopee.ph/VoU94od5s.
