Garmin Venu 3

Date

The Garmin is one of the most popular brands if you’re looking for a wearable with comprehensive health and fitness features. One of their models is the Garmin Venu 3, equipped with features such as body battery energy monitoring, a sleep coach, built-in sports apps, and a new ECG feature.

The Garmin Venu 3 comes in two colors: Black and Whitestone. It features a no-frills design and looks like most smartwatches on the market. But the Venu 3 still looks good with its slate stainless steel bezel enclosing the 1.4-inch AMOLED screen and Gorilla Glass 3, and fiber-reinforced polymer case with 5ATM water resistance. It uses a 22mm quick-release silicone strap that is smooth to the touch.

Looking around the watch, you’ll see three buttons for navigation as well as the built-in speaker/microphone for calls. Underneath it are the sensors as well as the proprietary charging port. There’s no wireless charging here, unfortunately.

The Garmin Venu 3 feels light on the wrist at 47g which feels a bit weird especially if you’re used to heavier smartwatches. But we got used to it quickly and is very comfortable even when worn the whole day.

The watch relies on the Garmin Connect app for setup and access to the data collected by the Venu 3. This includes sleep score with Heart Rate Variability (HRV), nap detection, V02 Max, body energy monitoring so you can check your energy levels throughout the day, guided meditation, respiration and hydration tracking, and more than 30 preloaded GPS and indoor sports apps — including walking, running, cycling, pool swimming, activities for wheelchair users and more.

But one of its main features is the ECG feature using the Garmin Connect app to check how your heart is functioning. All you have to do is set up the feature in the app by inputting your details, then touch the button and one side of the watch with your two fingers and wait 30 seconds. The results will then be displayed in the app and will indicate if there are any signs of atrial fibrillation (AFib) but it discloses that the ECG app cannot detect heart attacks. Still, it’s good data to look into together with regular checkups with your doctor.

In terms of battery life, the Garmin Venu 3 can last up to 14 days. Charging, however, is done via its proprietary charging port and cable.

The Garmin Venu 3 is a feature-packed smartwatch for those who want to stay on top of their health and fitness progress like gym goers, runners, cyclists, and swimmers, to name a few. It’s not cheap, though, at PHP 28,250, so make sure you’ll take advantage of its features before considering getting one.
