Back in October, SteelSeries unveiled their latest microphones for gamers and streamers powered by the company’s Sonar for Streamers app, the Alias and the Alias Pro. What we have here is the latter, aimed at users with heavier demands for their streaming audio. Read about its features below.
First, let’s talk about the difference between the Alias and Alias Pro since the two almost look the same. The Alias is an “all-in-1” solution with built-in controls and RGB indicators to display audio levels and mute status. The Alias Pro, on the other hand, has a cleaner and more professional look as the controls and RGB indicators are placed in the separate XLR Stream Mixer.
The Alias Pro package contains the following:

The SteelSeries Alias Pro setup is pretty easy with most of the wiring done on the mixer. Just plug the XLR cable into the microphone and mixer, plug the power adapter into the mixer, and then connect your PC/laptop to the mixer using the USB-C cable. If you noticed, there are two USB-C ports in the mixer and that is so you can connect to two PCs at the same time. There’s also a 3.5mm headphone port for mic monitoring.
From here, you now have easy access to the Microphone Gain Dial, Microphone Mute Button, Programmable Mute Button, and Volume Dial (default Headphone), but if you want to truly maximize its features, you should download and install the Sonar for Streamers app that will give you an all-in-one streaming sound studio for live-streaming. You can connect any mic or headphone, assign your apps like Discord or Spotify, and apply studio effects or tweak the presets any way you want. Add to that the 3X-sized capsule (vs generic), and you end up sounding bigger, richer, and more resonant, compared to a generic microphone. You can even do ASMR content with it.
